I was asked a few days ago to think about and answer the question, “why am I here?” Why am I a member of the Convergence? It is a story I enjoy telling. So when the team decided to move forward on a website, it made good sense to share this story here.
Let me start by introducing myself. My handle Matsumuri. I am a photographer, a musician, a teacher, and a streamer. Creating things is a huge passion of mine. . I am also very much a gamer. Video games have been a part of my life since I was sneaking into my dad’s room to play Asteroids on his Atari 2600.
Lets try streaming
Several months ago I started live streaming on Twitch.tv. I knew right away that making friends and connecting with other creatives was going to be super important if I was going to have fun with this. So, with that in mind I started browsing Twitch. I started with games I knew and games I thought I might play. Have you ever done that? There are literally millions of people streaming, it is kind of crazy.
After a few clicks, I found a guy named Stretchycat. He had just changed his scene to the picture of a bar with him behind the bar and asked if anyone needed a drink. After that, I asked for a Jack and Coke for fun. His reaction was amazing! I won’t spoil it for you. Try it some time, I bet you will be entertained as I was. In addition, his stream was inviting and he was very entertaining. I knew right away that this was the kind of person I was looking to meet. As I continued to watch, he mentioned this amazing group of people he was proud to be a part of, the Convergence. I was instantly intrigued. So I clicked the link and joined the Discord.
Here Is My New Family Online
As soon as I walked through the door I was warmly welcomed by Mellemony and others. Honestly, I was blown away. I have walked into a few other Discords before and since and this is still the best greeting I have received. Within a few short days I started making the CVG Discord a regular part of my morning routine; a cup of coffee and fun conversations almost every morning. Over time, I could see what a great community this is. I wanted to be a part of it.
Fast forward a few months to today. I find myself as a member of the staff of this amazing group of humans (and a few robots). We have done a few charity events and regularly play games together, engage in great conversation, and encourage each others various types of artistic pursuits. We strive to create an inclusive place for everyone from all walks of life. Together we share our triumphs and support each other through our trials. This group of people have become family to me. That is why I am here.
